Ok, so, remember the last vacation post, with all the cool dining reservations and all? Yea, that’s out. I have spent more time on the phone with Disney Dining during the last 3 days than I have my own husband. Remember, he’s not here at the moment, so that is really something. Anyway… Thursday I got home from school and noticed I had a message from someone in the 714 area code. I actually figured it was Traci, (Hi Traci!!) until I realized that if Traci called it would actually SAY Traci on the phone.
So. It’s Disney Dining, telling me that the 4:50 (early for dinner already) reservation I had for Ariel’s Grotto was now moved to 4:10 (REALLY early for dinner, jeez) due to them ‘trying out’ World of Color. Have I explained World of Color yet? Let me sum up, just in case. Fantabulous new nighttime show extravaganza on the lake thingy (I should know the name of it) at Disney’s California Adventure. Under construction now, was supposed to open around April 1, then rains came and rumors went wild about it not opening until July simply because in the Annual Passholder’s newsletter or something it said something about it coming in ‘summer 2010′. I’ve been paying attention to all things Disneyland long enough to know that a week of rain doesn’t set anything back 3 months, Disney covers their butts pretty good in all official communications, and rumors gone wild are usually just that. Back to the point… my first reaction was actually panic. They’ve been testing World of Color (WoC from here on out) every night for a week or two now, and I am thinking they are testing and half the park will also be closed, yadda yadda. Then I thought, no, that actually sounded more like soft openings or AP previews (jeez, I am using the parentheses even more than normal today… when new attractions open, ‘soft openings’ are what Disney will do just before the official opening… basically they just open up the ride/show/whatever without telling anyone and if you are lucky enough to be there you get to ride/watch whatever. AP previews they will sometimes do just for Annual Passholders, but same kind of deal.) and hey, I’m totally down with that, I will be an AP once I get there! I did call them back and move the reservation to 5:20 and try to pump ‘Michelle’ for more info about what was going on, but she wouldn’t tell.
Friday, I am sitting waiting for Kayla’s bus to show up at the stop, and what do you know, Disney Dining calls again. This time, it’s because Steakhouse 55 is actually going to be closed on the day we have reservations there. I believe this has something to do with them redoing the Disneyland Hotel where the restaurant is located. This time I talk to ‘Justin’, who gets me reservations the same time but on Thursday, nicely says he will take care of calling Pinocchio’s Workshop and changing the reservations for the kids to Thursday, and won’t give me any info about WoC.
(Never hurts to ask, though, right?) Then I talked to Todd, and the thing is, Monday was in the middle of the vacation, time for a nice break from the kids, etc, and Thursday is at the end, and, and…. so I called Disney Dining this morning, talked to ‘Patty’ who changed my reservations back to Monday but at Ralph Brennan’s Jazz Kitchen, then I called the hotel to change the kids back to Monday and talked to ‘John’. Neither would give up any info about WoC. Dorks.
Other vacation news… remember I said that I was researching for some special daddy time for Charlie? I had a marvelous plan A… doesn’t look like it’s going to work out. So I came up with a plan B… doesn’t look like that will work out either. Plan C was I give up and make it not a surprise and just ask Charlie what he wants to do with dad… turns out he’s pretty upset that the Diary of a Wimpy Kid movie starts while we are on vacation, and there’s a big fat movie theater in Downtown Disney. Please, please, please let it be playing there. And he wants to eat at the ESPN Zone. Honey, if you are reading this, have fun at the movies with Charlie on the Thursday we are there, and a nice lunch, since I have been making new friends at Disney Dining instead of talking to you.
Even more vacation news… I made a list of things we might need for vacation. I’ve now bought all of them. Including new Crocs for me and the kids. YAY! Only, I bought the wrong size for me, as if I don’t already own enough to know what size I need. In my defense, I bought the new CrocBands, which come in number sizes instead of the S,M,L format I am so used to. As a side note, I am counting CrocBands as a step closer to my world domination, because I have in my closet right now 2 pairs of sneakers, 2 pairs of boots, 1 pair of flipflops, 6 pairs of Crocs, and 8 pairs of Chucks. Obviously even worldwide corporations are now focused on making products that are designed with me in mind.
That’s it for now, I am sure I’ll have more to say in the next couple weeks as it gets closer and closer! 19 days to go!
